Privacy Policy

Pehnawa is a marketplace where women in Pakistan buy and sell pre-loved clothes, jewelry and handbags. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Pehnawa is based at Office 101, First Floor, Plot 98-C, Khayaban-e-Ittehad, Phase II Ext., DHA, Karachi, Pakistan. You can reach us at support@pehnawa.org.

Information we collect

• Your phone number — to sign you in with a one-time code and to identify your account.
• Profile details — your name and city, and optionally a bio and a profile photo.
• Listings — title, description, photos, an optional video, category, size, condition, price and city.
• Marketplace activity — offers and counter-offers (including any note you add), deals, reviews, saved items and boards, closets you follow, reports you make and people you block.
• A record that you opened a listing, kept as one entry per person per listing per day, so the seller can see how many people viewed it. Sellers are shown a number, never who looked.
• Messages you send in a deal chat. They are kept so both of you have a record of what was agreed, and so we can look into a report about that deal.
• A notification token for your device, if you allow notifications.
• A record of which version of these policies you agreed to, and when.

We do not collect your device location, your contacts or any payment details, and the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.

Photos and videos

Before a photo or video leaves your phone, the app removes the hidden metadata your camera adds — including the location where it was taken and details of the device. Photos are also resized.

This works for the formats phone cameras record (JPEG, HEIC, MP4 and MOV). If you upload a video in another format, its metadata may be kept.

Listing photos, listing videos and profile photos are public: anyone using the app can see them.

How we use your information

To run the marketplace: to show your listings, let buyers and sellers make and respond to offers, arrange deals, show closet ratings, send you notifications about your own activity, and keep the community safe by reviewing reports and acting on misuse.

We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

When your contact details are shared

When an offer is accepted, a private chat opens between the two of you and your name and city are shown to each other. Your name and city are already visible on your closet.

Your phone number is not shared. It is given to the other person only if you choose to share it in that chat, and only for that deal. It is never shown on your closet or anywhere public.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers who process information on our behalf, only to provide their service:

• Supabase — database, sign-in and file storage. Your data is stored on their cloud servers, which may be located outside Pakistan.
• Twilio — sends your sign-in codes by SMS, and so receives your phone number.
• Expo, Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple — deliver push notifications, and so receive your notification token and the notification text.

Cookies and storage on your device

The app does not use cookies. It saves your sign-in session (encrypted, in your phone’s secure key storage) and your language and theme preferences on your phone, so you stay signed in and see the app the way you set it. These are needed for the app to work, so we do not ask for separate consent.

Our website, pehnawa.org, only hosts these policies. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking.

How long we keep information

We keep your information while your account is open.

Offers expire after 48 hours but stay in your activity as negotiation history. A listing you delete is hidden from the marketplace but kept, with its photos, so the offers and deals that referred to it still make sense — until you delete your account.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Account → Delete account. This immediately and permanently deletes your profile, your photos, your listings with their photos and videos, your offers, deals and reviews, your saved items and boards, the closets you follow, the people you blocked and the reports you made. Offers and deals you were part of are removed from the other person's history too.

If you can't use the app, see pehnawa.org/delete-account.html to request deletion by email.

Reports that other people made about you may be kept to keep the marketplace safe. Copies of deleted data can remain in encrypted backups for a short time before they are overwritten.

Your choices and rights

• See and correct your details at any time by editing your closet and listings.
• Turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
• Delete your account and data as described above.
• Contact us at support@pehnawa.org with any question or request about your information.

Security

Information is encrypted in transit and at rest, and your sign-in session is stored encrypted on your phone. Access is enforced by the database itself, so each person can only read what they are entitled to — this is what keeps phone numbers private until an offer is accepted.

Age

Pehnawa is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy in a way that matters, we update the date above and ask you to agree again in the app before you continue.
